The Crackers won the 2023 opener Friday night as they defeated Gainesville 10-0 at Ivey Watson Field.
The Crackers scored 10 runs as the team pounded out 11 hits in a 7 inning (run rule) game. 2022 SBL batting champion Scott Campbell led the offensive attack with a 3 for 4 night that included a towering opposite field 2 run homer to right center field in the 6th. Catcher Tyler Jackson crushed a 3rd inning grand slam over the left field wall to give him 4 RBI in the game. Jack Fleming and Tyler Alford both had 2 hits each.
Cracker starter Ryan Suppa was efficient allowing no hits and throwing just 58 pitches over 4 innings while striking out 5. Suppa, the SBL 2022 Reliever Of The Year, is building his pitch count up as he develops into more of a starting pitcher role. Relievers Andrew Arnold and Charlie Bagwell finished out the final 3 innings of the game to secure the Cracker win.
